Job Description:

Dayu Chinese International Education is an established Chinese language education provider dedicated to promoting Chinese language and culture in New Zealand. We provide structured Chinese language programmes for school-aged children, with a focus on developing proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

As our student enrolments continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and committed Chinese Language Teacher to join our teaching team.

Position Details

Position: Chinese Language Teacher
Location: Auckland
Employment Type: Full-time
Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week
Remuneration: NZD $30–$35 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Planning and delivering structured Chinese language lessons for primary and secondary school-aged students.
  • Teaching Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing skills using age-appropriate teaching materials and curricula.
  • Preparing lesson plans, classroom activities, teaching resources and homework based on students' learning levels and programme objectives.
  • Assessing students' language proficiency and monitoring their academic progress.
  • Providing constructive feedback to students and communicating learning progress with parents where appropriate.
  • Adapting teaching methods and materials to accommodate students with different language abilities and learning needs.
  • Maintaining an organised, engaging and supportive classroom environment.
  • Preparing students for relevant Chinese language assessments, examinations and academic programmes where required.
  • Participating in curriculum development, teaching meetings, professional development activities and other academic activities organised by the school.
  • Assisting with school cultural activities and events that promote Chinese language and culture.
  • Maintaining accurate attendance, assessment and student progress records.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Education, Chinese Language, Teaching Chinese as a Foreign/Second Language, or a closely related field, together with at least three years of relevant classroom teaching experience in Chinese language education; or
  • At least seven years of relevant professional classroom experience teaching Chinese language to school-aged students.

Applicants should also demonstrate:

  • Native-level or highly proficient Mandarin Chinese language ability, with clear and accurate pronunciation.
  • Strong knowledge of Chinese language teaching methodologies and Chinese primary and/or secondary school curriculum content.
  • Proven ability to teach children of different ages and Chinese language proficiency levels.
  • Strong classroom management and lesson-planning skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents and colleagues.
  • A genuine commitment to education and the ability to motivate and engage young learners.
  • Reliability, professionalism and the ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team.

Putonghua Proficiency Test Level 2 or above is preferred.

About You

You are an experienced educator who understands that effective language teaching requires more than textbook instruction. You are able to create engaging lessons, identify individual learning needs and help students build confidence and long-term proficiency in Chinese.

You will be comfortable working with children and families from diverse backgrounds and committed to maintaining a professional and supportive learning environment.
