Job Description:

Space Transformers New Zealand Ltd

Location: Otahuhu, Auckland

Employment Type: Full Time/ Part Time

About the Company

Based in Otahuhu, Auckland, Space Transformers New Zealand Ltd is a premier provider of premium, high-end pergola and louver solutions. We specialise in transforming outdoor residential and commercial areas into luxurious, functional, year-round living spaces. Due to rapid growth and high market demand, we are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our production team.

The Opportunity

We design, engineer and install opening-roof louvre systems, louvred pergolas, privacy screens and architectural aluminium structures. Every project we put up has to stand in a New Zealand wind zone, survive a seismic event, and satisfy a building consent authority and we are looking for the engineer who makes sure it does.

This is a hands-on structural role with real ownership. You will take projects from concept through to producer statement, working directly with our design, fabrication and installation teams rather than at arm's length from them.

What you'll be doing

  • Structural design and verification of aluminium louvre roofs, pergolas, screens, canopies and support structures
  • Wind and seismic load calculations to NZS 1170.0/.1/.2/.5, including high and extra-high wind zone sites
  • Member sizing, connection design and fixing details to AS/NZS 1664, with substrate fixing design across timber, steel, concrete and masonry
  • Preparing and issuing PS1 producer statements, and supporting PS4 construction review where required
  • Producing calculation packages and documentation that satisfy B1 Structure and get consents through without RFIs
  • Responding to council RFIs and liaising with BCAs, architects, main contractors and clients
  • Reviewing shop drawings and fabrication details before release, and attending site for complex or high-risk installations
  • Contributing to the development of our standard details and pre-engineered spans so we quote faster and build safer

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience with lightweight metal, facade, canopy, curtain wall or similar architectural structures
  • Confident with structural analysis software (SpaceGass, Strand7, ETABS, Robot or similar) and comfortable in AutoCAD or Revit
  • The judgement to know when a standard detail will do and when a project needs first-principles work
  • NZ work rights and a full driver's licence

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with aluminium extrusion systems or proprietary louvre products
  • Facade engineering or weathertightness exposure
  • Experience working alongside a fabrication workshop

What we offer

  • Attractive hourly rate depending on experience, reviewed annually
  • Engineering New Zealand membership and CPD fully funded
  • Variety - no two sites and no two wind zones are the same
  • A small, direct team where your design decisions get built, not filed
